Nutritional Insight: Understanding Minimum Values
The calculations for eggs and cranberries prioritize efficacy for urinary health. "Minimum" refers to the lowest amount providing meaningful benefit without risking nutrient imbalance.
🥚 Eggs: Balancing Phosphorus
Beef heart is high in phosphorus. To prevent crystals, we need calcium to achieve a safe Ca:P ratio of ~1.2:1.
- Chicken Eggs: Calculation ensures at least ~1.44 eggs per lb of heart. We round up to whole eggs (typically 5 for a 3.1lb batch) to guarantee safety.
- Duck Eggs: Richer shells allow for fewer eggs (~1.05 per lb minimum). We use ~1.3 per lb (4 per batch) as a safe baseline.
Dropping below the "Min Safe" value shown in the table risks calcium deficiency and crystal formation.
🍒 Cranberries: Urinary Support
Cranberries provide Proanthocyanidins (PACs) to prevent bacterial adhesion.
- Target: Mimic ~20-30mg PACs/day (low-end supplement dose).
- Prevention Mode: ~0.48 cups/lb heart (~1.5 cups/batch) provides a gentle daily boost.
- Remedy Mode: ~0.73 cups/lb heart (~2.25 cups/batch) provides 50% stronger support.
💧 Hydration: The Primary Defense
Dilution is crucial for struvite prevention. Our goal is ~78% total moisture (mimicking natural prey), which minimizes the need for extra drinking.
- Batch Target: ~4-5 cups of total added liquid per 3.1 lb batch.
- App Base: Starts at 2+ cups and allows increasing to a "soupy" texture via the slider.
🧂 Salt: Thirst Encouragement
Sodium is strictly not required but can encourage drinking.
- Base: 0 tsp (Safe/Natural).
- Strategy: Start with 0. Small amounts (0.25-0.5 tsp/batch) can help if urine concentration remains high, but avoid excess to prevent dehydration.
